How to Start a Detox

Detoxing is an important part of eating clean - but before you start the detox process, it is a good idea to do a few things that will help you ease you body into the process.

Initially, it is a good idea to start decreasing caffeine, wheat and sugar intake.
  • Caffeine: To minimize withdrawal symptoms we will be reducing caffeine (coffee, soda, tea or any other caffeinated drink) by 50% a day starting on Sunday. That means if you usually have four cups of coffee in the morning, you would have two cups of coffee in the morning on Sunday, one cup on Monday and half a cup on Tuesday. Reducing intake by 50% a day is a safe and effective way to you wean your body off the caffeine.
  • Wheat:  Make sure to read the label on everything. Wheat is hidden in a lot of foods such as soy sauce, white bread, pasta, and various condiments. Keep an eye out for it and avoid it.
  • Sugar:  Reduce your sugar intake so that you are completely off of it by Thursday. Unlike coffee, sugar is difficult to quantify but reducing by 50% is a healthy way to reduce intake. Sugar is also hidden in a lot of processed food and canned food. Again, read labels so that you know what you are eating.
Your goal should be to eliminate all caffeine, wheat and sugar within 4-5 days.

As you get ready to detox, here are few other blogs that might be helpful to get yourself prepared both mentally and physically.
